The problem
When Netflix launches a global hit, the world expects the world: takeovers in Times Square, PR stunts everywhere, endless media dollars. Wednesday returned as one of the platform's biggest titles, and Brazil expected the formula. The character built her whole identity on refusing exactly that kind of attention.
The position we took
The world saw a global sensation. We saw an outcast. A character who hides from every spotlight should not be launched inside one, so we ignored the industry rule and gave her the only placement she deserved.
What we made
The Outcast Billboard: a single billboard in Xique-Xique, Bahia, the town Brazil uses as shorthand for the middle of nowhere. No media plan, no takeover, no noise. Just Wednesday, alone, with the national meme as the headline, exactly where she belongs.
The number
Over 50 million impressions, most of it earned, from the quietest campaign possible. Locals embraced it, visitors travelled to see it, and Brazil made it the country's number one trending topic. Xique-Xique entered Google Trends tied to the show, and other towns' mayors asked Netflix to notice them too.
