A lot of our work starts before anyone opens a deck. Someone plays a track in the room, and for a few seconds everybody goes quiet. That silence usually means we have found the feeling, and the words come after.
So we listen the way we work. A song holds a pace and a memory in three minutes, and it tells you who a culture is talking to faster than most research does. When we build a launch for a series or a campaign for a beauty brand, the direction often shows up first in what is playing in the studio.
Matter into Sound is how we share it. Each month we invite one person, from inside MATTER or from outside it, to build a playlist around a single idea. They choose the tracks and the name. We ask only that it is honest about what they are listening to right now.
Seven volumes so far: Hypnotic Presence, Less Words More Feeling, Invisible Systems, Positivity Index, In Between Atmospheres, Lo-vibe Hi-life with guest curator Louise Winkler Freshel, and Dreaming.
To hear how the studio sounds this month, the series lives on Spotify.
